Jim qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and has been involved in maritime law for almost the whole of his subsequent career. He has previously been a partner in a London niche shipping law firm, and has also worked in the Piraeus office of a major law firm, mainly advising Greek owners. Jim is a Senior Claims Director in the UK Defence Club, and in addition to management of his own claims advises junior colleagues on claims strategy in FD&D disputes.

Before joining Thomas Miller, Tarja worked as a claims adjuster for a liner owner/operator. As well as long experience in handling all types of non-people claims, including fires and larger cargo claims on Ro-Ro ships, Tarja has also extensive experience in reviewing customer service contracts for Members and assessing needs for extended P&I cover. Whilst currently concentrating on focusing on her new relationship management responsibilities and developing the Centre of Excellence for the Club, ensuring it provides high level of service to all its Members, she is still involved in day-to-day handling claims handling and advising Members on queries.
