HM Treasury: Libya (Financial Sanctions) Order 2011
The following notice was issued on the 27th February 2011 on the financial sanctions pages of the UK Treasury website in respect of the financial measures taken in relation to Libya.
By the adoption of UNSCR 1970 (2011) on 26 February 2011, the United Nations, amongst other matters, introduced financial sanctions against those persons listed in Annex II to the Resolution, or designated by the competent United Nations Sanctions Committee, as persons involved in or complicit in ordering, controlling, or otherwise directing, the commission of serious human rights abuses against persons in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, including by being involved in or complicit in planning, commanding, ordering or conducting attacks, in violation of international law, including aerial bombardments, on civilian populations and facilities; or acting for or on behalf of or at the direction of such persons.
The Libya (Financial Sanctions) Order 2011, which gives effect to Resolution 1970 (2011) in the UK, came into force at 5:15pm on 27 February 2011.
