Oman Maritime Law 1981

Oman is not a signatory to the 1976 Convention of Liability for Maritime Claims but the provisions akin to it are incorporated into the Maritime Law.

Nature of Claim Time Bar

Claims arising out of a maritime contract of carriage 2 years from the date of delivery of goods or from the date on which the goods ought to have been delivered.
Claims for recovery of monies paid otherwise than by way of entitlement 2 years from the date when the right to recovery arises
Collision - where liability rests on one vessel 2 years from the date of the incident
Any claims towards personal injury or death as a result of a collision 1 year from the date of death
Claims for remuneration for assistance/salvage 2 years from the date of termination of such operations
General Average claims 2 years from the date of arrival of the vessel at the port which was specified originally for arrival or at the port in which the sea voyage came to and end
Claims arising out an insurance contract 2 years
