今回の『専門家に聞く』では、多くのメンバーが直面している重要な課題、持続可能な船舶リサイクルについて取り上げます。 海運業界が脱炭素化への取り組みを加速させる中、特に温室効果ガスの排出に関するより厳格な規制が新たに施行されつつあります。 このような変化により、多くの老朽化した船舶が現在、リサイクルヤードへと向かうことになっています。本分野において大きな節目となるのが、2025年6月26日に発効予定の『香港条約』です。 このような進展がある一方、規制遵守に関しては依然として対処する必要のある法的不確実性が残されています。このような状況を適切に理解し対処するため、今回はこの分野の第一人者であるMARPROF Environmental Ltd.の共同創業者、Jim Heath氏およびRobin Townsend氏をお迎えしています。香港条約が実務においてどのような意味を持つのか、また、メンバーの皆様が今後に向けどのような準備を講じるべきかについての見解を伺います。

In this edition of Ask an Expert, we tackle a pressing issue facing many of our Members: sustainable ship recycling. As the maritime industry accelerates its push toward decarbonisation, new and stricter regulations, particularly around greenhouse gas emissions, are coming into force. This shift means that many older, less efficient vessels are now heading to recycling yards.

A major milestone in this space is the Hong Kong Convention, which is set to enter into force on 26th June 2025. However, despite this progress, there are still legal uncertainties surrounding regulatory compliance that need to be addressed.
