The duty engineer and oiler were assigned the job of replacing a damaged diesel generator exhaust gas thermometer requiring a section of the exhaust manifold to be dismantled. While doing this, he leant backwards to avoid dust blowing into his face with the result that he lost his balance and fell from the platform on to the deck more than two metres below.

Lessons Learnt: Stowaway Incident

The vessel was scheduled to call at two West African ports for cargo operations. At the first port of call, all operations took place without any untoward incident. However, shortly after berthing alongside at the second port of call as preparations were underway to commence cargo discharge, the crew found two stowaways who had been hiding inside the deck crane pedestals.
