The Club has recently handled two separate incidents in Algeria where crew members taking cash to the Master of the ship have had the cash confiscated by the Algerian Customs, as well as a fine imposed for twice the amount of the cash value.

From the feedback from our Membership we have continued to evolve the Maritime Intelligence Portal. The portal is now based on a global map.
Members are referred to the Alert issued by the Association on 21/04/2017 relating to the Panama Canal Advisory A-15-2017: Modification to Fuel Requirements in Canal Waters.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) issued an updated list of national operational contact points dated July 31, 2018.
This Legal Briefing provides a quick overview of the cabotage regimes in Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Peru and the United States, highlighting the restrictions, the exceptions, and penalties for violating these regulations.
The Club has learnt that Paris MOU, Tokyo MOU, Indian Ocean MOU and Black Sea MOU port state control (PSC) regimes have agreed to focus on the prevention of air pollution by ships during their forthcoming concentrated inspection campaigns (CICs) - 1 September 2018 and 30 November 2018.

1152 - 07/18 - Waste ban in Thailand

Members are advised that the government in Thailand is implementing strict measures to ensure that prohibited plastic waste is not permitted to be imported or entered into the country. This follows a recent national police investigation, with the discovery of smuggled & prohibited waste.
The Club has been alerted to a number of recent incidents involving crew at mooring stations, most of which have resulted in horrendous life-changing injuries, one was fatal.
