Current Bunker Issues in US Gulf

Following the continued coverage of bunker issues in the US Gulf, the Club has produced this short FAQ in conjunction with Brookes Bell. Should you have any further questions or claims arising, please contact your usual P&I or Defence claims handler.
Members are advised that there will be temporary restrictions in place in the vicinity of Sentosa Island during the planned summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Members will have noted the decision by President Trump announced on May 8 to withdraw the USA from participation in the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) agreed between Iran, the EU, and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States - plus Germany), and to re-impose US nuclear-related sanctions.

USCG - BWMSs are not 'plug and play'

The US Coast Guard issued a bulletin advising that the installation and operation of ballast water management systems (BWMSs) on ships will require work specific to each vessel and its overall situation. Owners and operators should not expect that 'plug and play' will be appropriate.

Sanctions against North Korea

In reaction to recent ballistic missile and nuclear weapons tests by North Korea, the U.S. and the UN have both imposed significant new sanctions against North Korea.
There is no question that Hurricane Harvey, which first struck Texas on August 25, 2017, was a storm of catastrophic proportions. An event like Harvey and the associated force majeure declarations have the potential to impact the performance of transportation contracts such as charter parties and contracts of affreightment.
In July and August of 2017 the U.S issued another Executive Order expanding on the sanctions against Venezuela.
