L4 Syndicate Manager Sumit Madhu recently attended the senior officers conference in Mumbai on 26th October for Oman Shipping.
The Club wishes to bring to Members' attention that during the recent XIX Party Congress in Beijing, the local authorities in China implemented enhanced security measures at all ports. We were aware of a number of cases where crew members were required by local authorities to surrender their mobile phones or other electronic devices for inspection when ships call at ports in China. Those inspections appeared to have been conducted at random, of if a ship was specifically identified as posing a security threat.

Delivery of cargo without bills of lading

SCI Mountain Challenge 2017

The SCI Mountain Challenge 2017 is a biennial fundraising event providing teams of competitors with the opportunity to push their physical limits in support of mariners who face extreme conditions every day to keep our modern way of life afloat.
From 1 September 2017, in Jiangsu and Zhenjiang provinces, the requirement of all ships at berth (1 hour after arrival and before departure are excluded) using low sulphur bunker (not exceeding 0.5%mm) is geographically expanded from the major ports to all ports within these two provinces.

Safety at Sea Awards 2017

Distinction in maritime safety and secure working practices were highlighted at the Safety at Sea Awards held last night at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Park Lane.
Earlier this year the Club supported the production of the Human Rights at Sea mental health welfare leaflet "Remaining Resilient after Traumatic Events"
There is no question that Hurricane Harvey, which first struck Texas on August 25, 2017, was a storm of catastrophic proportions. An event like Harvey and the associated force majeure declarations have the potential to impact the performance of transportation contracts such as charter parties and contracts of affreightment.
In July and August of 2017 the U.S issued another Executive Order expanding on the sanctions against Venezuela.

The annual UK P&I Club golf day was held at the New Zealand Golf Club in Woking, Surrey on Tuesday 22nd August 2017.

Following the implementation of Martial Law in Mindanao (southern Philippines) on 24th May 2017, the Senate and the House of Representatives met jointly at the end of July and voted to extend martial law in Mindanao until 31st December 2017.
