China - Bulk Cargo Shortage at Loading Port

Our local correspondents in China, Huatai Marine, have provided the following update on cases where a claim is made for shortage on the ground of short loading at the loading port, despite the shortage of discharged quantity not exceeding 0.5%.

The Singapore Convention on Mediation was signed on 7 August 2019 by 46 countries. The Convention applies to international settlement agreements resulting from mediation, concluded by parties to resolve a commercial dispute. Countries that ratify the Convention will have to ensure that international commercial settlement agreements are enforced by their courts.

Korean Golf Day 2018

The Club held a golf day in Korea for members and brokers on Friday 13th April. The day was hosted on the Jack Nicklaus designed Ocean Course at the Sky72 Golf Club in Incheon by Andrew Jones, Asia Pacific Regional Director, and James Petrie Underwriting Director for Korea.
Due to adverse weather (heavy snow) conditions in the metropolitan Tokyo area, the Japan office is closed.

The Club held a Loss Prevention Seminar and Reception at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul on 21st September. In attendance were Andrew Jones Regional Director for Asia, Stuart Edmonston Loss Prevention Director, DY Kim Senior Claims Director, and Sean Song Claims & Loss Prevention Executive.
The Club has recently been notified by our correspondent in China, Huatai, of Typhoons "HATO" and "PAKAR", which landed in southern China on 23rd and 27th August 2017 respectively.
