This circular informs Members of a recent ban imposed by the South Korean authority on their nationals travelling to the Philippine. This may have some implications for those vessels that are scheduled to trade to ports in certain regions of the Philippine, mostly known for nickel ore export.

A crew member recently suffered a serious head injury after a slip and fall down some stairs onboard. This resulted in him being in Intensive Care for a month followed by surgery. After his medical repatriation back to the Philippines, he required further surgery and a rigorous plan of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation.
The attached Memorandum was published in the Manila Times on 1st September and became effective on 16th September. As a consequence, Manning Agents enrolled in the deployment of Filipino crew on foreign ships will need to provide the POEA with copies of the Certificate(s) of Financial Security issued in favour of the Shipowner, by 15th November 2017.

Following the implementation of Martial Law in Mindanao (southern Philippines) on 24th May 2017, the Senate and the House of Representatives met jointly at the end of July and voted to extend martial law in Mindanao until 31st December 2017.
It has been announced this week that as of May 2017 Philippines, Malaysia & Indonesia will launch joint piracy patrols in waters of the Sulu Sea.
