194 - 06/01 - Radioactive Materials - New UN Numbers

Trulli
From January 2001 a new edition of the IMDG Code for Dangerous Goods Transport has been published by the IMO. One of the significant changes for transporters of radioactive materials is that the UN numbers for these materials have changed. This is principally with respect to fissile materials. A number of Members continue to use the old numbers,

which can cause confusion. They are advised to use the numbers given in the Schedules for Class 7 Material in the new IMDG Code. The new numbers can also be found in the "IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, 1996 Edition (Revised) - No. TS-R-1 and in the United Nations Recommendations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods.
