The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre ("HKIAC") completed a comprehensive revision of its Rules at the end of last year. The 2018 HKIAC Rules, hereafter "the New Rules", came into effect on 1st November 2018. They are accompanied by a Practice Note on the Appointment of Arbitrators ("Practice Note") which came into effect on the same day.

The annual Safety4Sea award ceremony was held at the Yacht Club of Greece, Athens, yesterday evening at which it was announced that the UK Club Crew Health Programme had won the Safety4Sea Initiative Award.
On Wednesday 19th September, the UK P&I Club hosted a seminar for Members, brokers and club correspondents at the Altes Madchen micro-brewery in Hamburg.
California's ballast water exchange law

Vessels calling in the United States can still use exchanges to treat ballast water prior to their respective deadlines for installing a USCG type-approved treatment system. However, failure to properly conduct exchanges can lead to substantial penalties, especially in California.

From the feedback from our Membership we have continued to evolve the Maritime Intelligence Portal. The portal is now based on a global map.
The UK Club's 150th Safety competition has been running for nearly a month, and there have been some excellent entries so far, but the Club is keen to get as many entries as possible before stage 1 closes on 30th November 2018.
