Nigel is Chairman of the Board of Thomas Miller P&I Ltd, responsible for its corporate governance and its performance in overseeing the management operation of the UK P&I Club. He also represents the Club alongside the CEO at IG Managers’ meetings.

He became Chairman in November 2023, having served as Deputy Chairman since September 2004.

His areas of responsibility over the years have included UK Club's Rules, Environmental Liability, recommendations on Club Policy in relation to numerous industry issues, Loss Prevention, Captive Reinsurance, and the Club’s 2012/13 restructuring.

Nigel joined Thomas Miller in 1981, working in a claims syndicate for members from Japan, Greece, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He became a Director of Thomas Miller P&I in 1986, a Syndicate Manager in 1990, and was elected to the Thomas Miller partnership in 1994.

He has been involved in many International Group (IG) matters, and has represented the IG at many international meetings. He currently chairs IG Committees on Competition, on Maritime Security, and on Ships' Standards, and chairs the IG’s LNG Working Group.

He represents the IG as an industry expert in the BIMCO Safety & Security Committee. He is an Adjudicator for the IACS Independent Appeal Board. He is a member of the International Quality Assessment Review Body (IQARB) established in 2019. He is a former director of ITOPF and is a trustee of its DB pension scheme.

Nigel was educated from King’s College, London (1973-77, BA Hons 1st in Philosophy). and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford (1977-81, D. Phil studies in Philosophy and Jurisprudence).
