715 - 09/10 - Piracy and robbery - Bangladesh
The Association would like to inform members about developments in Mongla Port, Bangladesh.
In the past month, a notorious gang of local robbers, pirates, looters, bandits and other criminals have become prevalent in the port of Mongla and the outer anchorage. As a result of this situation foreign vessels within the port or in the anchorage face a constant threat of being looted, robbed or attacked. Recently, a couple of vessels have been looted whilst in the port and large parts of a cargo of zinc plates were stolen, along with other valuables from the ship.
Members intending to trade to this port/area should be extremely cautious and contact their local agent or the club correspondent to ascertain the latest situation.
