867 - 02/13 - Egyptian Emergency - Suez Canal
The country of Egypt is currently experiencing political unrest and a state of emergency has been declared in the three Suez Canal cities. Most port operations are currently continuing and canal convoys have not been interrupted.
The state of emergency has been declared to last 30 days, and affects the Suez Canal ports of Port Said, Ismailia and Suez. Egyptian army troops have been deployed in Port Said and Suez with the primary goal of protecting the waterway. In addition, a curfew has been put in place from 9PM to 6AM and the government has agreed measures to allow soldiers to arrest civilians while the state of emergency is ongoing.
The disturbances have affected many husbandry services, including crew changes and transfers, Cash to Master and shipments delivery as road transportation is currently deemed unsafe due to the anti-government action nationwide. All transfers and formalities must be carried out before the curfew time.
For the safety of all personnel involved, Members should seek the advice of their local agent and consider postponing or making alternate arrangements.
