Every year, the UK P&I Club supports several charities, usually with a maritime connection. In 2017/18, the Club is working with four charities, The Mission to Seafarers, the Sailors' Society, Mercy Ships and the International Maritime Rescue Federation.
Listeriosis Outbreak - South Africa

The UK P&I Club have received the following update from local correspondents P&I Associates (Pty) Ltd, regarding the recent Listeriosis outbreak in South Africa.
The UK Club has received advice from our Correspondents in the Philippines on respecting the parameters of the Employment Contract (otherwise know as the 120/240 Day Issue).
The Club has recently been notified through various sources about a newly enforced Yellow Fever quarantine requirement for individuals, vessels and cargo entering into China from certain countries as announced by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) website Announcement No. 11/2018, dated 19th January 2018.
The UK P&I Club recently hosted a People Claims Seminar, which was well attended by Club Members.

Tokyo Crew Health Seminar 2017

The seminar was recently organised by the UK Club Japan branch. Members and brokers joined other interested parties to learn more about the UK Club work and analysis on Crew Health topics.
Ceniude Lda, a UK Club Crew Health approved clinic in Lisbon, Portugal, recently participated in the 1st Portuguese Job Fair and Congress Working on a Ship.
Diabetes Awareness Month

1st November marks the start of Diabetes Awareness Month. In the UK, and elsewhere around the World, people will be encouraged to "turn November Blue" in acknowledgement of diabetes awareness.
Plague outbreak - Madagascar

Madagascar has been experiencing a large outbreak of plague affecting major cities and other non-endemic areas since August 2017.
A crew member recently suffered a serious head injury after a slip and fall down some stairs onboard. This resulted in him being in Intensive Care for a month followed by surgery. After his medical repatriation back to the Philippines, he required further surgery and a rigorous plan of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation.
